Jan Holmes Biography Page

Biography:

Jan Holmes has been painting professionally since 1975.  Her first introduction to watercolors was through workshops given by the Arizona Watercolor Society. The vivid colorful landscapes of the Southwest were an early and lasting influence on her painting style.  Since then Jan has been fortunate to study with many watercolor masters including Milford Zornes, Christopher Shink, Tony Couch, and  Maru Deloyht-Arendt.

Her subject matter features landscapes and local scenes around Coupeville on Whidbey Island and the Puget Sound area where she has resided since the early 1980's.  Holmes, a marine biologist, also likes to incorporate marine flora and fauna into her paintings.

Holmes has been recognized nationally for her work including receiving the Emily lowe Memorial Award by the American Watercolor Society.  Her work can currently be seen at the Penn Cove Gallery in the historic waterfront town of Coupeville Washington or her BARE BONES STUDIO.
