Welcome to the Bare Bones Studio located on beautiful Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest, just north of Seattle Washington. The Bare Bones Studio website is designed to showcase my art and is divided into several galleries that reflect my artistic interests. The Dia de los Muertos gallery reflects on my fascination with bones and animal skeletal parts in general, and my interest in Mexico's celebration of the Day of the Dead. This ancient festivity is a joyous annual event celebrated throughout Mexico on the first and second of November in remembrance of deceased family members. It is a lively social event infused with much food and drink and specialty sweets. Family alters and local cemeteries are lavishly decorated to welcome the departed guest of honor for two days of family get-togethers and picnics.

My maximo and Juanita series (a work in progress) depicts the evolving relationship between two colorful characters living the ranchero life in Colonial Mexico.

The Nature and Still Life gallery expresses my passion for nature, especially marine flora and fauna, and the limitless beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

The Whidbey Island gallery features plein air and studio interpretations of Whidbey (and surroundings) prairies, towns and seascapes.

The World Travels gallery features current and favorite interpretations from global adventures spanning many years.

The Bronze and Carving Gallery showcases the wood and bronze creations of Steve Holmes who works in a style inspired by the rich artistic culture of the Pacific Northwest coastal Indians.
